Copper Rain Chains
Attached to downspouts, modern copper rain chains originated in Japan. In the present, these copper chains attach to downspouts to divert water flowing from gutters. Rather than just falling from the gutter to the ground, the copper rain chain gives this mundane occurrence a pleasing appearance. The waters falls through and weaves around the copper cups and links, creating a dazzling display every time it rains. In addition to improving the appearance of your gutter, the copper rain chain develops a beautiful aged patina of green over time.
Although many in the present consider copper rain chains decorative, they were used for hundreds of years in Japan. The water would stream down the chain and collect in a barrel, where it would then be kept for household use. Rain chains at the time were also incorporated into the designs of many temples.
A kit for a modern copper rain chain comes with a clip, which is installed into the gutter. Flexible, the clip fits into any gutter size. The rain chain then attaches to the clip. A kit can also have a basin for catching water at the bottom.
Even with this basic design, copper rain chains come in two styles: link and cup. Link copper rain chains are basic and straightforward: a single or double chain that goes from the gutter to the ground in a clean line. Because there are no cups to catch the water, a link copper rain chain ends up causing more splashing.
Cup copper rain chains, on the other hand, offer many more design options. But, no matter the copper orbs spaced out over the links, all "cups" have open bottoms, which act as funnels for moving water from one cup to the next with minimal splashing.
HG Lifestyle offers rain chains in both types of styles. To turn your gutter spout from ordinary to extraordinary, consider our many tea cup, umbrella, flower, cup, single or double chain, or link copper rain chains for your home.
