Copper Weathervanes
Durable yet stylish, copper weathervanes are a traditional piece of outdoor décor. Originally used to indicate the direction of the wind, most copper weathervanes in the present simply function as decoration to enhance the exterior of your house, barn, or gazebo. Some give the home an old-fashioned appearance, particularly when the weathervane is coupled with a cupola, but others are a shiny ornament that draws attention to the peak of the building. No matter if you go with a rooster for a traditional look or a shape less typical, copper weathervanes give the home a unique character.
As one of the strongest materials against the weather, copper is used for various pieces of outdoor décor, and weathervanes are no exception. For a bright and stately appearance, consider the look of polished copper for your weathervane. Gleaming on the surface, such weathervanes capture and reflect the sun, which illuminates the polished appearance.
If the glint and glow of polished metal isn't for you, consider a staid look with antique-like copper. With an aged appearance, these copper weathervanes have a mottled patina of green and aged copper. Old doesn't need to mean wear and tear. Rather, similar to a fine wine, copper becomes attractive, although less bright and shiny, with age.
Homes are seldom accented by a single piece of décor. If you plan to add a copper weathervane to your current arrangement, consider how it will interact with and mix in with the rest of your outdoor pieces. All copper should be coordinated; polished and aged surfaces often clash with each other. From pairing the weathervane with finials or a cupola, see that all have either a polished or aged copper appearance.
Several styles of copper weathervanes are sold through HG Lifestyle. Find traditional shapes, such as roosters and grasshoppers, less typical and whimsical options, nautical styles, and custom copper weathervanes.
