Handmade Copper Weathervanes

Expert craftsmanship goes into every piece at HG Lifestyle, starting with the company's original product - weathervanes. Made out of solid brass or copper, all weathervanes are crafted by local artists and artisans. In several shapes and sizes for the roof, a gazebo, or the garden, handmade copper weathervanes at HG Lifestyle are created by some of the finest craftsmen in the industry and represent the quality of our full selection of outdoor decor.

Handcrafted from copper or brass, all weathervanes start out as a sheet of metal traced into a shape. As you can see from HG Lifestyle's selection, this form may be traditional - a horse, rooster, grasshopper, or arrow - or eccentric. All handmade copper weathervanes are detailed, and once a shape has been cut, all lines, scales, and other texture elements are hammered into the surface, giving the ornament a unique and specific character. Two halves of equal sizes make up each weathervane, and for the final shape, these two parts are soldered together.

The rod and other mounting hardware are added last. Although the shape is made from pure copper or brass, the directional is brass or aluminum, and the rod is a combination of brass and stainless steel or galvanized steel.

All handmade copper weathervanes are given a final touch of a finish. Those with an aged, or green, appearance are coated with Blue Verde, an artificial finish. For a polished appearance, raw copper is placed on a buffer. The shine, however, diminishes after a month and the metal begins to tarnish naturally. Using Stay Brite is recommended for keeping up the appearance of a polished copper weathervane.

Shapes and sizes for all handmade copper weathervanes at HG Lifestyle vary. Garden weathervanes are the smallest and are designed to be mounted onto sheds, gazebos, or barns. Standard and estate weathervanes are the next sizes up, and both of these can be installed onto roofs. Custom weathervanes, the largest size available, consist of multiple single copper shapes fused together to create a three-dimensional scene.
